Silence is golden?

NEOSjulietmacleod2014

I’m sorry for the lack of posts recently. The building work on our house has just finished its twelfth week and there’s still a great deal to be done. I’ve been caught up with it, which I am enjoying, but it is all consuming. As a result I’ve not been making for the same length of time, which concerns me. And my new studio, which was due to arrive this week, is now not coming for another three weeks. Hmmm.

There are positives though… The house is really coming along; we’re now in the school holidays; we’ve just taken our new camper van (Daisy) on her maiden voyage; and I’ve just signed up for North East Open Studios 2014 which is in September (for details see Events). I really enjoyed visiting other people’s studios last year, so I’m hoping that some folk will visit me this time around. Now I just desperately need my studio so that I can get making…

Foundations

It’s been a while since my last post. Things have been pretty hectic here with the building work, and it is taking up all of my time. The good news is that construction is going well, a few small hiccups, but nothing major. The groundworks are pretty much complete so now the actual ‘building’ can commence. Also there is now an enormous hole in the garden ready for a retaining wall to be built. Once this has been completed the pad can be laid for my new studio.

I’ve been so busy that I’ve barely had any time for anything clay related. I’ve not thrown a pot for over five weeks and I’m really missing it. However I managed some sketching last week, and a bit of photography here and there. Even on a messy building site there’s inspiration…

Construction

Now you see it, now you don’t

There may be a small break in transmission…

I’ve mentioned to a few people that we were about to have some work done on our home. With very little notice the builders started on Monday. As a result things are fairly chaotic, but in a good and exciting way. Once completed the house will hopefully have a bigger kitchen, an extra bedroom and a new studio for me. Unsurprisingly this is going to take some time… three months minimum.

So, my making time is going to be interrupted whilst I manage this project. I’m hoping to have sporadic chances to design and make new pieces, but it is unlikely that my plans of going into any kind of proper production will now happen until Spring. I hope to continue to post my progress, but for the time being it may be a little less often.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
